Privacy Policy
Slovo is designed to work without an account and to keep your learning data on your device.
Information stored on your device
Your learning level, interests, saved words, review history, reminder settings, and reading progress are stored locally on your device and in the app’s shared storage for the Slovo widget. Slovo keeps your last 30 conversations and a bounded store of previously played conversation audio on this device for replay. You can delete a conversation and its downloaded audio from Speak. Downloaded conversation audio is excluded from device backups.
Notifications and speech
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device when you turn them on; no notification service receives your data. Word pronunciation uses bundled audio or Apple system speech, and checking what you say uses Apple speech recognition, on your device where supported. Live conversation replies use Microsoft Azure Speech.
AI conversation practice
When you choose conversation practice, Slovo sends the lesson word, learning level, conversation history, and replies you type or speak in an active voice conversation to our AWS service. Claude on Amazon Bedrock generates Russian replies, learning suggestions, and the feedback shown after a conversation. When pronunciation is enabled or you request playback, the generated Russian reply is sent to Microsoft Azure Speech to produce audio. Generated speech is temporarily cached on our server for up to 48 hours for replay; it is not a recording of your microphone. In hands-free mode, speech transcripts are sent automatically after a pause; you can pause the microphone or switch to typing. Speech transcripts are treated like typed replies; speech recognition may be processed by Apple. Slovo does not upload microphone recordings to its AI server. For reliable retries, we temporarily keep AI replies and related words, lesson context, and hashes of conversation turns for up to 48 hours; we do not retain the full submitted transcript on this server. Apple-signed app-download information identifies your app account, and RevenueCat verifies subscription access. A pseudonymous account identifier and initial time zone are retained to enforce allowances across reinstalls; daily allowance records expire after four days. AWS processes requests in US regions. Abuse limits store a daily salted hash of your IP address and counters with a two-day expiry. Expired database records are removed asynchronously. Network services necessarily receive your IP address. AI replies can be inaccurate.
Dictionary translations
If your app language is not English, dictionary meanings are translated on demand: the Russian word and its English meaning are sent to our AWS service, translated by Claude on Amazon Bedrock, and cached for up to a year so each word is translated once per language. Nothing about you is included in the translated text.
Subscriptions
When subscriptions are enabled, Slovo uses Apple In-App Purchase and RevenueCat. RevenueCat processes an anonymous app user identifier, device and operating-system information, and purchase history to validate purchases, provide entitlements, prevent fraud, and provide subscription analytics. Slovo does not receive your payment card details.
App usage events
To see where people get stuck while getting started, Slovo sends a few usage events to our AWS service: the event name (for example, opening the subscription screen or finishing the first word), a fixed step or plan name, and the app build number. Events are linked to the same pseudonymous account identifier described above and never include your words, recordings, or anything you type. We keep them for up to 90 days and use them only to improve Slovo, never for advertising or tracking.
Tracking and advertising
Slovo does not use third-party advertising and does not use your data to track you across apps or websites.
Children
Slovo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices and rights
You can disable notifications in iOS Settings, delete individual conversations in Speak, and remove all locally stored learning data by deleting the app. Records on our server expire on the schedules described above; the allowance record holds only a pseudonymous identifier and a time zone, with no name, email address, or learning content. Apple provides subscription management through your App Store account. If you are in the EU or UK, we process data to provide the features you request and, for abuse limits and usage events, on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and improving Slovo. You have the right to access, correct, or delete your data, to object to processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
When our practices change, we update this page and the date at the top.
